The Nationals' losing streak is up to 11 games, and the manner in which the team finds ways to lose is becoming more astounding.

On Tuesday night in Philadelphia, Washington took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning and appeared on its way to snapping the streak. But a series of gaffes led to another downfall.

Left fielder Willie Harris dropped a routine, shallow flyball in the fifth that allowed one run to score. Starter Jason Bergmann, who pitched fairly well, hurt his own cause when he couldn't get a sacrifice bunt down in the sixth that might have led to another run or two. (Bergmann is now 0-for-35 with no sacrifice bunts this season.) Werth hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning to lift the Phillies over Washington 5-4 on Tuesday night, the Nationals' 11th straight loss. The losing streak is the longest for the Nationals since they moved to Washington before the 2005 season.

The Washington Nationals promoted right-handed pitcher Marco Estrada from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Estrada went 1-2 with a 0.74 ERA in his last four starts with Columbus. He is 9-6 in 25 starts between Columbus and Double-A Harrisburg this season. Estrada was a sixth-round pick by the Nationals in the 2005 draft.
