Manager Cecil Cooper jokingly said he would start Brad Ausmus in the series finale at Miller Park so that the Milwaukee Brewers would fete the veteran catcher.

"I got to put him in the game (Wednesday) so they can honor him," Cooper said.

Actually, this is the last series Ausmus will play at Miller Park as an Astro. He will be a free agent after the season.

"I don't know if I'm retiring or not, but this will be it in Houston," said Ausmus, who resides in San Diego in the offseason. "It's just time to be closer to home."

Roy Oswalt said absence of Ausmus, a three-time Gold Glove winner, will be felt by the pitching staff, and Carlos Lee also will miss the guy he considers his best off-the-field friend on the club.

Moehler extended his winning stretch to five games by pitching into the sixth inning and allowing one earned run, and Geoff Blum hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth to help the Houston Astros beat Ben Sheets and the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 on Tuesday night.
