Royals rookie right-hander Luke Hochevar left after five innings Tuesday with pain in his ribcage area, an ailment that was diagnosed as muscle tightness.

Hochevar, who was charged with the 9-4 loss at Cleveland, felt discomfort while warming up in the sixth inning before being led off the field by assistant trainer Frank Kyte.

"I went out to warm up in the sixth inning and the first pitch took my breath away," Hochevar said. "I tried to make another pitch and still the same. It just grabbed me. I never hurt it before. It caught me by surprise.

"There is nothing (hurting) in my shoulder or my elbow, just something in my ribcage that just grabbed me. It is tough to catch my breath and tough to breathe."

The right-hander had allowed seven hits over five innings and the Royals were trailing 4-3 when he went to the mound to warm up.
